Vinyl Thursday at N.o.B.

We love our partnership with DJ John Dreznes from Beverly Records. During patio season, he joins us on Thursdays to spin vinyl from 6 to 9 pm and share the stories behind the music. If you haven’t experienced it, you are definitely missing out!

June 4 is the year 1978. Before algorithms and playlists, before everyone lived in their own musical universe, there was FM radio. In 1978, rock shared the dial with disco. Funk sat next to singer-songwriters. Punk was creeping in. This edition of Vinyl Thursday samples the music, stories, and atmosphere from one of the most fascinating years in radio history. Turn it on. Leave it on. See where the dial takes you.

May 28 is Sounds of LA, with songs that celebrate warm air, freeways, neon signs, marinas, roller rinks—you get the gist. We’ll start in 1959 with Ritchie Valens and follow the city as it slowly invents the sound of nighttime America through labels like Del-Fi, Asylum, Elektra, A&M, and SOLAR. Stop by Nicky’s of Beverly & you’ll catch Thee Midniters, War, Linda Ronstadt, Sly & The Family Stone, Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac & a bunch of records that’ll have you asking, “What IS this?”

May 21 is Sunset Soul. Warm pavement. Open windows. City lights slowly coming alive. Join us Thursday as we build our vinyl record theme night around the sound of summer evenings — soulful records that somehow feel nostalgic and alive at the exact same time. This is music for hanging on the Patio at N.o.B., late drives, rooftop conversations, neon reflections on wet streets, and staying out later than you planned.

May 15 is The Unappreciated, a night dedicated to the hidden architects of music history. Some songs will be instantly recognizable. Others will sound hauntingly familiar, even if you swear you’ve never heard them before. We’ll trace the fingerprints of overlooked musicians, session players, songwriters, and cult legends who added the emotion, danger, atmosphere, and humanity to some of the greatest records ever made. From Los Angeles studios and Detroit soul to Muscle Shoals and late night highways, this is music history after midnight.

For Thursday, May 9, John will be playing Saxpophone Gold, & he’s sharing the playlist on Spotify!
